Important BART Development Meeting, Thursday May 22, 6-8pm

Where: Ed Roberts Campus, 3075 Adeline Street, Berkeley

Friends of Adeline urges you to attend this meeting to hear from the developer teams. Please come early and submit a question to be asked.

Here are some sample questions created by Friends of Adeline:

We believe that South Berkeley, a historically Black community, should have participation in this project as a result of the harm done by BART when the station and tracks were constructed in the 1960’s and many residents’ homes and businesses were lost as well as generational wealth.
  • What has been your experience in addressing issues of harm repair, equity, andrestoring displaced communities?
  • How would you support harm repair through this development project?
  • How would your team conduct community engagement?
We believe that this project should have 100% affordable housing. We want a development team that understands the complexities and inner workings of delivering affordable housing, and that can maximize the use of affordable housing strategy to benefit the most vulnerable in our community.
  • What experience does your development team have in delivering equitable affordablehousing projects?
  • In what ways have these projects addressed the affordability needs of the mostvulnerable within the community?
  • How have you collaborated with community members and community baseorganizations to integrate the broader needs of the most vulnerable into your work?
We believe in ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY AND PARTICIPATION for South Berkeley with this project.
  • In what ways does your team envision accomplishing equitable participationthroughout this project?
  • What efforts will there be to bring value to Berkeley’s disenfranchised workforcethrough this project?
  • Please provide examples of how you have included the disenfranchised workforce ancentered equitable participation through a project.
We understand that financing this project will be expensive. Getting an affordable housingproject of this magnitude funded is going to be challenging in the current climate. The City ofBerkeley made a commitment of $26.5 million to this project, with $18.5 million dedicated to theWest Lot and the balance going to the East Lot.
  • Does this leave a large funding gap? If so, how does your team intend to bridge the funding gap?
  • Please provide examples of ideas and strategies for how your team would addressproject financing?
  • Given the Current Economic Climate, How will BART contribute funds to the projectbeyond the existing committed funds from the City of Berkeley?
